Saving money, time and waste with frozen veg

With food prices so high and budgets tight, there has never been a better time to try using frozen veg. Not only is it cheaper, but they are frozen at peak nutrition (so full of nutrients!), ready to use (no prep!) and you can use only what you need, meaning no waste!

Frozen is often where we suggest starting with new veg or adding a little to a meal. In each of our family favourite meals we have suggestions for how to slowly add more veg to your regular dinners, including how to use frozen to your advantage for slowly improving them step-by-step.

Saves you money

For the most part, frozen veg are often more affordable than fresh ones, making them a great way to eat more veg on a budget.

You only use what you need with frozen veg – so less waste. You can easily measure out portions by handfuls, and if you are just trying out a new veg with your kids, you can give them tiny amounts and keep re-offering without worrying that the rest may end up in the bin.

Nutritious & Versatile

When veg are harvested, they are usually very quickly packed and frozen, retaining more nutrients than they would sitting on shelves and in fridges.

It’s not just frozen peas anymore, there are loads of different options for veg by themselves, prepped for convenience, mixed with other veg… you can get broccoli, parsnips, carrots, spinach and so much more! This makes it easy to have veg on hand for a variety of different meals and to eat the rainbow by consuming a variety of veg, too.

Add a handful

Try chucking a few into your family’s favourite meals. Sprinkle onto a pizza, blend into a soup, stir into a curry… keep a couple of frozen veg on hand and just throw a few handfuls into whatever meal you are making tonight! Make simple sides

Making dinner and wondering if there’s a way to add veg on the side without lots of faff? Try microwaving some mixed veg and stirring through a little salt & pepper and some oil or butter as a side dish. Or stick some already cut-to-size frozen parsnips on a shelf in the oven with the fish fingers. Pop frozen green beans in a pan of simmering water or microwave until piping hot and add a little butter and pre-chopped frozen garlic, if you like. Stick a bag of stir fry veg or chargrilled mixed veg into a pan with a little bit of oil and fry until piping hot. Most frozen veg is ready to cook and serve, making it a perfect way to add a veg side without needing to prep anything!
