Don't be overly concerned…
Refusing veg is a common problem in children, and while it is important to keep offering veggies, kids go through pickier phases often, and getting into confrontation with your child on a regular basis is likely to make things worse.
One way to start off on the right foot here is by understanding your child’s preferences, their likes and dislikes, when it comes to food, especially vegetables. That’s going to give the best chance of success.
Try our experts’ help on understanding preferences…
Variety, variety, variety.
Keep offering veg, and don’t give up on a veg completely just because it is being refused right now. Yes, some will never be eaten, but they will come around to some eventually, so keep offering variety as much as possible. Keep the long game in mind here – they refused it today, but they might not next week…

Think outside mealtimes.
Keep meals calm and positive – make sure your child sees you eating your veg and don’t push them to eat theirs or promise ice cream if they eat their Brussels sprouts. Let them see it as a normal, non-confrontational part of meals. Then outside of those times, regularly talk about and interact with veggies.
